Do those who have died read Facebook postings? Perhaps the better question is “Can those who have left this world for the next read Facebook?” I can’t imagine they would want to since those of us still in our right mind wonder if we want to read all the postings of what someone is eating for breakfast. Just as strange is the public monolog given by a surviving relative at a funeral to the one who had passed these gates of death and whose body is “laying in state” in front of all.

I ask these questions because of two recent incidents that came across my consciousness. A few days ago I read a FB posting to a person who died some time ago. It was addressed to the deceased! The thoughts were sensitive and indicated how much he was missed. I can appreciate that the author wanted the world to know how much he was loved and cherished. The second event was some time ago when at a funeral a son of the deceased talked to the deceased as if she were either in the casket cognoscente of the eulogy which was addressed to her, or was in glory (“Absent from the body…”) and could hear the wonderful words extolling her.

But as my special friend said today “those of us who are called “nit pickers”” find it hard to enter into the elucidations of sorrowing folks in arenas that are not supported by the Scriptures let alone encouraged or commanded. The only text which has been used by some to defend addressing the deceased is from Hebrews 12 “…so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us…” But most conservative expositors and biblical scholars give no ground for the deceased looking down over the banister of glory on our activities, hearing our sorrow, enjoying being missed, pained by what we are passing through after their departure or hearing or reading our words of acclamation and praise.

Surely the presence of our Lord does not allow the deceased to indulge in the pain of knowing what is going on on earth among their relatives and friends. Their joy would be greatly diminished if they wanted to or were allowed to share in our sorrow for them or sorrow for ourselves. The Lord God hears our voices and knows our thoughts but those who have passed through the gates of splendor have no capacity or desire to enter into our lives in a world they have left behind. That capacity belongs to God.

But what blessing it is to know that our God knows our activities from the womb to the tomb as Ps 139 so clearly defines. What comfort to know He knows, He hears, understands, enters into, superintends, arranges, teaches, guides, helps, holds, etc. All of this and more no matter how much we are sorrowing, rejoicing, in poverty or prosperity, in sickness or health, in faith or fear, unbelief or faith, and all other exigencies that come into our life. To know He knows releases us from seeking some interaction with those who have gone on before us. But learning from them the lessons they have learned, as Heb 11 so ably expounds, give credence to the blessing of memory without communion with those who have left us an empty body. (By Fred Kosin)

True Light

Have you ever got a chance to reflect back on your life? What have you earned? Peace or sorrows?  Life goes chugging along with it's course but comes to a screeching halt when it meets death. There is only one life for each one of us on this earth. It is fleeting. We are blessed with abilities and have access to resources to make it worth and meaningful. Our abilities become meaningful when we use these resources. God, The Creator by His mercy and kindness sent His Son The savior "Jesus Christ" to this world for our sins and flashed the "True Light upon us. (Heb. 1:1..4) The Word of God is the true resource for us today. Grab it and use: it... Search through it and find your way.... When you walk in darkness, it will be the light of your path.. when you walk in His Light ,it will reflect on you and you will give the "True Light" to others. Take a firm decision today itself and make use of this eternal resource... The Bible.. The True Word of God.

Have you ever cried out at any time in your life "I have nobody, I am forsaken." Often you may think that your wealth, health and friends will last forever. But when you face the darker realities of life you may feel rejected and deserted." I have nobody" was the cry of a man who was waiting at the Bethesda pool in Jerusalem for thirty eight years (John 5:7).He had nobody to put him first into the pool for his healing when the angel was stirring up the water. Though there were several people around him, no one listened to his cry and stretched out his helping hand. He became utterly helpless and hopeless. At that time Jesus Christ came there and showed compassion on him and said 'Get up, pickup your bed and walk'. At once he was completely healed and walked with his bed. All classes of people, the learned and the unlearned, the wise and the unwise, the rich and the poor, the young and the old, at sometime or other may cry "I have nobody". Medical science has advanced to a great extent in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Still millions of people face untimely death due to both incurable diseases and unprecedented calamities. AIDS has become a nightmare throughout the world. The strong men of today may stoop tomorrow. When you are bedridden you may desperately cry "I have nobody". Unexpected financial crisis, breaking up of families and other social issues may make you physically, mentally and spiritually depressed. If you seek the service of a great physician who will provide total healing to your body, mind , and sprit, your life will be instantaneously changed. Is it not amazing to know that the Great Physician Jesus Christ who had healed the man in Jerusalem is still alive. Listen to his unique challenge. 'Come to me all you who are weary and overburdened, I will give you rest.' (Mathew.11:28) He forgives all your sins . His blood will wash away all your sins and make them as white as snow even though they are as red as scarlet. He will give you eternal life. Don't delay. Life is short. Eternity hastens. Why not take a decision and pray in this manner with a sincere heart. Your life will never be the same again." Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I need your help. I believe that you bore my sins and sickness on the cross. Wash me, Lord, with your precious blood and make me a new creation. Amen"

An invitation to a Fabulous Journey.

Where are we going?  To a place called the Promised Land and many call Heaven.  Either way, it is beyond our imagination – beyond your wildest dreams, it’s so fabulous.  The Bible says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”        (1 Corinthians 2:9)  If we picture a place in which all of our best and favorite things would be, we wouldn’t even be close to what God is preparing!  Look around you and drink in the wonders of our incredible earthly home and the marvels of the universe which envelops it.  Then realize that God is going to create a better one!

How do we get there?  We only know that it is space travel with the Lord Jesus Christ handling the travel arrangements.  What should I pack?  Nothing – in fact, we will be given new bodies without aches and pains and diseases.  What is the cost?  Actually nothing for you!  Jesus Christ has paid the price for all travelers who have asked Him to guide their lives.    WHY?

When God decided to create you – yes, He actually knew your name before your parents did and He created you with what is known as a ‘free will’ – the right to make choices, good or bad.  He could have made you a robot or a puppet but He wanted you to follow His directions, not because you had to, but because you returned His love.  Returned?  Yes, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world (includes you and me) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  His Son was a willing participant.  “But while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8.

Don’t I have to do something to merit my passage? All I have I had to earn.  Ephesians 2:8 informs us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works (deeds) lest anyone should boast.”  There is actually no earthly cost to you.

This is news to me.  How do I receive this gift?  Romans 10:9 shows us the way, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

When do we leave?  This is the one answer we cannot give you.  The departure day and hour is known only by our Father God.  We need to be completely ready before the departure date as it will occur ONLY ONCE!  Those who have not completed their travel plans will be LEFT BEHIND in a desperate, doomed society.

How long will we be gone?  For eternity!  You will forever have only God’s love and good things in your life!

Kissing Frogs!!!!!

In tales that were read to us while we were children the princess was required to kiss a frog.  The frog would turn into a prince; they would get married and live happily ever after.  We were never told two important things.  First the author never dealt with guys kissing a frog to find his princess. Secondly, it was never disclosed exactly how many frogs had to be kissed before finding the right one.  We never learned whether the color or species was important.  If you went to where frogs were habiting every day, you could, at one a day, kiss 365 frogs in a year.  If you were desperate and kissed three a day, that would yield more than 1000 FROGS – YUK!

Nowhere in the Bible do we find that our Heavenly Father requires any of us to kiss frogs to have an enjoyable future.  That should make you happy right off the bat.  The Bible tells you that God had you in mind before the creation of the universe.  This is heavy stuff – our little finite minds cannot grasp the enormity of God’s plan for each of us.  Start with God being omniscient (all knowing).  He knows ALL from the beginning and as far as the future goes.  He knows all about you – your needs and your aspirations.  More importantly, He knows what is best for you.  Add in that God is omnipotent (all powerful).  He CAN do anything He chooses to do.  If He can create the universe and keep it running like clockwork, He most assuredly can deal with your needs.  What does He require of you?

God created you with a free will – the right to make choices.  WHY?  So He would know that when you were obedient and sought Him, that you returned His love.  He knew that we would sometimes make bad choices so He and His Son devised a plan to solve the problem.  John 3:16&17 begins the explanation. “For God so loved the world (us) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  “ For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

Are you remembering that you are not a robot with God working the controls, nor a puppet with God guiding the strings?  You have a free will but you do have to respond to Him to receive the immeasurable benefits. HOW?  You may think that you are good enough for God, but Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And further, Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death (Eternal separation from God).”  Admit that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior.  God’s Son, Jesus Christ volunteered to be your Savior.  Romans 5:8 tells how, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  This drastic measure was required because of God’s Holiness – sin could only be overcome by the shed blood of God’s own Son!

Romans 10:9 tells us how to receive this blessing, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”   Ephesians 2:8 explains that this blessing is a gift (not earned),  “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”  If you have prayerfully and sincerely responded, in love, to the above then rejoice with Romans8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh (seeking inappropriate worldly pleasures), but according to the (Holy) Spirit.”

Christ in me for ever

With a joyful heart I praise Him

The one who came from heaven

Leaving all the glory behind

Leaning towards me the lowly one

Born in a manger lived among the poor

Healed the sick and raised the dead

Stopped the wind and calm the seas

Preached the good news of the kingdom of God

Mocked by the loved ones and strangers too

Carried all my burden on the cross

Nailed to the cross and portrayed as guilty

Died, buried and resurrected

Showed the power of God in weakness

Raised, glorified and become the head of all

Gave me His Spirit the glorious gift

Made me the salt and light of the earth

Guaranteed eternal life and inheritance

How would I forget such a savior and friend?

He is marvelous, wonderful and beautiful

My heart fills with His remembrance

Not only on this Christmas day

But every moment, day and night

Being filled with His knowledge is my prayer

As I live on this earth and to behold his beauty

Upon his promised appearance

Ready for Harvest!!

John 4:35-38 "..................Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours"
